Digital BusDigital Bus Summer Seminar -

The King Kekaulike Complex Math Academy, in partnership with the Maui Digital Bus, is proud to sponsor a summer seminar for teachers in King Kekaulike Complex who are interested in learning more about how technology can be used to support math and science instruction.

This 3 day seminar will provide participants with an opportunity to:

  • Explore the existing Digital Bus curriculum and view projects done by past participants and their students.
  • Practice using technology tools and software in the classroom and in the field
  • Plan for and schedule a digital bus project or resource implementation for SY 2007-2008

King Kekaulike Complex teachers will be eligible for a $100/day stipend for their participation in this seminar.

Dates: June 18, 19, 20, 2007
Time: 8:30-3:30 each day
Location: pending
Cost: no cost (a partnership between the King Kekaulike Complex Math Academy and the Maui Digital Bus is funding this seminar)

Participants are encouraged to register grade level teams. Registration is limited and priority will be given to King Kekaulike Complex teachers. All registrants will be notified by e-mail (by May 20th) with final details and confirmation for this seminar.

SY 2006-2007 Professional Development opportunities for King Kekaulike Complex:

Building a Professional Portfolio 1
Building a Professional Portfolio 1This activity is designed to assist teachers in creating a professional portfolio that documents work toward meeting the Hawaii Teacher Standards.

This course combines face-to-face meetings with website content, monthly assignments and portfolio development. As teachers progress through the course they will be building their professional learning portfolio that will be submitted at the end of the course.

Activities include:
Monthly class meetings - to introduce new content and provide opportunities to discuss topics of interest and to practice writing portfolio reflections.
Website - with links to resources that will be needed to complete assignments
Monthly independent work - to meet the chosen Hawaii Teacher Standards
Portfolio examples - to spotlight examples of classroom implementation
Self-assessment of progress toward meeting course requirements.

Meeting #5: March 14, 2007 (3:30-5:00), King Kekaulike HS - Portfolios due

Portfolio Contents:
Learning Portfolio will include:
1. Professional Development Plan (with caption and reflection)
2. Two examples of progress toward meeting standards for each standard chosen (with captions and reflections. One example must be an example of student work.

PDSC - Master catalog of courses avaliable for teachers. You need to create a profile before you can register for a course at this site. To create a profile you need to be on the school network, have a Lotus Notes id, and be using Internet Explorer as your browser. You only need to create a profile one time. If you take a course from PDSC be sure to get your principal's approval before beginning the course. There are official forms that you can download from the PDSC site for getting permission.

Digital Bus Seminar #1 - 3 PD credit (or stipend for KKC teachers) Activity #1618 (listed under Mathematics) - for teachers who have never participated in a Digital Bus Project. June 12-14th at King Kekaulike High School. Registration is limited to 20 teachers per Digital Bus Seminar. Participants may choose to earn 3 PD credits for each seminar or stipends. Digital Bus Seminar #2 - 3 PD activity (or stipend for KKC teachers) #1619 (listed under Mathematics) - for teachers who have already collaborated with the Maui Digital Bus. June 19-22nd at King Kekaulike High School. Registration is limited to 20 teachers per Digital Bus Seminar. Participants may choose to earn 3 PD credits for each seminar or stipends.
IMP2 - Available for $100/day stipend to teachers at King Kekaulike High School. June

CMP - Available for $100/day stipend to teachers in King Kekaulike Complex working with the Connected Mathematics Program. July 17-21.

PD Courses 2005-2006:

Curriculum Mapping 1 #1485 - This course is designed to train and support teachers in successfully implementing the curriculum mapping process. (Part 1 of a 2 part series)


Curriculum Mapping 2Curriculum Mapping 2 #1362 - This course in a continuation of Curriculum Mapping 1. Participants will continue diary mapping their chosen content area and will explore analyzing student work and making accomodations for different groups of students as the unit is taught. Participants will profile 4 students in a case study for differentiation.

Demo Teachers #1345 - This course is designed to support new teacher induction and retention efforts by creating a team of teacher mentors to work with new teachers on developing effective instructional practices.

November 1st Math - Elementary Grade Level Articulation - Debriefing notes - This is a compilation of the main topics discussed during the November 1st grade level articulation sessions. Teachers compared their existing Scope and Sequence to the latest documents from the DOE and discussed how closely their existing texts addressed the HCPSII Math standards.
